Inside: A step-by-step guide to making a batch of cauliflower rice plus five delicious cauliflower rice recipes to try!

If you are following the Plant Paradox way of eating, or a low carb, grain free, keto diet, you’ll love using cauliflower in a variety of recipes. Cauliflower is so versatile that it can be mashed like a potato, baked like a bread, formed into a pizza crust and substituted for rice!

How to Make Cauliflower Rice

You have two options. You can either use a box grater or a food processor. I have used both methods, but usually opt for the food processor as I typically will grate several batches of cauliflower rice and then freeze for later.

A box grater will work perfectly, and is a cheaper option. If this is the method you choose, please be careful as you are grating so you don’t accidentally hurt the tips of your fingers.

A food processor is more expensive but a great tool to have in your kitchen – especially if you’d like to make more things from scratch. There are built in safety features and lots of different uses.

  1. Rinse and dry cauliflower and remove outer greens.

If using a food processor, cut cauliflower into several smaller chunks, and place in your food processor using the grater blade.

  3. Once cauliflower rice has been grated, it's ready to enjoy either raw or cooked!

  4. Cauliflower rice can now be packed and frozen.

  5. To cook, simply drizzle oil into a skillet, and saute for about 5 minutes and season as desired.

FAQ About Cauliflower Rice

Here are some frequently asked questions about cauliflower rice.

Can you use frozen cauliflower?

Yes! I do this especially if the frozen bagged cauliflower goes on sale. To make cauliflower rice from frozen cauliflower, just open bag and add into your food processor. Make sure your food processor is fitted with a grater blade.

Can you freeze cauliflower rice?

Yes! In fact this is a great ingredient to prep ahead of time. I always have a few bags of homemade cauliflower rice in my freezer.

Can I buy already riced cauliflower?

Yep! I’ll be honest and say that I’ve done this a handful of times but usually regret it. It’s pretty quick to make at home, and if you prep a large batch at a time, cleaning up the food processor doesn’t seem too bad. You can buy premade fresh cauliflower rice OR frozen riced cauliflower. Just note that it’s usually more expensive to do this.
