Having a well stocked, lectin free pantry is a gift you give yourself. It’s like having some extra money in the bank. And it’s a lifesaver on those busy nights when you’re too frazzled to get creative with dinner and just need something nutritious quickly. It’s also easy to do!
Below, I’ve listed my favorite lectin free pantry staples. We thought it would be helpful to list some of our favorites for those of you who are just getting started. Please understand that this is just a rough guideline. YOUR lectin free pantry may look different depending on your personal tastes and preferences.
Lectin Free Pantry Staples
Some of these ingredients were a bit tricky for us to find at first, so whenever possible, we’ve tried to like to Amazon to give you a resource to find these items.
Coconut Milk – Great to use as a dairy substitute and in all kinds of curries, soups, and desserts!
Coconut Cream – Perfect alternative to a dairy based cream. We like to use this to help thicken up “creamy” soups, to replace sour cream or even as non-dairy, paleo “whipped cream” alternative.
Curry Powder – There are as many curry powder mixes as their are grandmothers in India. Feel free to sample a few different mixes until you find one that you like. Two mixes I love are the Trader Joe’s Curry Powder or if you have a local Indian grocery nearby, look for the Swad brand.
Cassava Flour – a great grain-free, gluten-free and Paleo alternative to wheat based flour
Arrowroot Powder – We love using this grain-free, gluten-free, paleo powder as an alternative to cornstarch. It works great as a thickener or to give your chicken and fish a bit of “breaded” crunch!
Almond Flour – Another great alternative to grain-based flours. Look for a “super-fine” grind when using to replace flour in recipes like pancakes or cookies.
Dried seaweed – We always have some dried seaweed on hand. This imparts a briny flavor and also offers a nice crunch. Our five year old eats an entire package in one sitting!
Good quality oils and vinegars – We love having a few different flavors of olive oil and vinegar on hand to quickly dress up our greens. Some of our favorite flavors include lemon, sesame, and basil.
